Community Supported Agriculture in San Marcos

Fresh from the ground!

After doing some local research, I’ve learned that here are several farms near San Marcos that offer CSAs.  Here are a handful to choose from:

Just 13 minutes outside of the city is Smiley Dog Farm (smileydogfarm.com), which does all of its farming by hand. Subscribers to Smiley Dog’s CSA will grin every time they pick up their box, which will not only be filled with in-season vegetables, but might include some more exotic fare, like lemongrass or prickly pear, to make you get creative in the kitchen.

Millberg Farms (millbergfarm@austin.rr.com), in Kyle, specializes in winter growing, so you can get fresh produce even when there’s a chill in the air. Some CSAs, like Bagley Smith Farms in Martindale (bagleysmith.com), let you get in on the action, asking CSA subscribers to help with farming activities like weeding, composting, and harvesting.

What better way is there to know where your food came from? You just pulled it out of the earth.
